We will once again welcome guest artists during the summer months – in
place of our choir. This could include: solos, duets, small ensembles, instrumentals…..
and we welcome people of all ages!
Anyone wishing to give a musical offering should
see Jim Wynne over the course of the next few weeks so that we can
arrange a schedule.

An Invitation To Be A Teaching Disciple!
Summer, 2009!
How many of us have always had a secret desire to try our hand
at teaching but were always a little afraid to commit to anything
long term? Now is your chance! This Summer (July and August), we
will have two Sunday School classes of wonderful children, grades
K-3 and grades 3-6, who are eager to learn.
We also have an excellent curriculum with all the “tools” needed
for both experienced and inexperienced teachers to use so that you
are not all on your own to devise plans. You will also have a partner
with whom to share the fun and responsibility.
If you would rather not teach formally using a curriculum but would
rather play with our babies and toddlers, the Nursery-Pre K class is for you.
For the next few Sundays, you will find a sign-up sheet at the rear
of the sanctuary for each class. Sign up for one Sunday or more in
any or all of the classes or speak to Martha Megill, Jocelyn Brandt,
or Phyllis Johnson.
Come share with and enjoy our children as they grow and learn!

Cell Phones for Soldiers
An RUMC "Greenspot" Project
The Cell Phones for Soldiers program was started in April 2004
by 13-year-old Brittany Bergquist and her 12-year-old brother Robbie
of Norwell, Massachusetts. Robbie and Brittany's goal is to help our
soldiers serving overseas call home. They hope to provide as many soldiers
as possible with prepaid calling cards. Through generous donations and the
recycling of used cell phones, Robbie and Brittany have already distributed
thousands of calling cards to soldiers around the globe.
Cell Phones for Soldiers hopes to turn old cell phones into more than
12 million minutes of prepaid calling cards for U.S. troops stationed
overseas. To do so, Cell Phones for Soldiers expects to collect 50,000
cell phones each month through a network of more than 3,000 collection
sites across the country.
The phones are sent to ReCellular, which pays Cell Phones for Soldiers for
each donated phone – enough to provide an hour of talk time to soldiers abroad.
Special thanks to Ruth Laurie for getting this program started.
Recycle your old cell phone for Soldiers by
bringing them to the church office – Thanks!

RUMC Book Club - June 2009 Selection
Tuesday, June 23rd
7:30 pm in the Hardenbergh Lounge
change from the Messenger!! When you get your June Messenger, you will
see that we were planning to read Team of Rivals for June, and we still
plan to read it soon, but it is just too long to read in one month.
So go ahead and get started on it, but for June, please join us for a
discussion of From Members to Disciples: Leadership Lessons from the
Book of Acts by Michael W. Foss. Pastor Victor has been recommending
this book to us for several months, and we hope you will all consider
reading it and joining our discussion.
You don't have to make a long-term commitment to the Book Club-- just
read this one 100-page book and join us on Tuesday, June 23 at 7:30 in
the Hardenbergh Lounge. Victor can help you find a copy of the book if
you can't find one on your own.

4th Annual Picnic & Concert in the Park
Tues. July 14th, 2009! 7:30 pm
On Tues. July 14, we will be meeting at the Kasschau Band Shell
(behind the Ridgewood library) for a picnic at 7:30 pm, followed by
music from the vintage rock-n-roll band "Squeaky Clean".
Please bring your own picnic (this is NOT a covered-dish dinner!) and
something to sit on, and join us for a fun evening of good food and good music.
Note: The McVeys are singing on Thursday, July 30, and they would
love to see friendly faces from RUMC in the crowd, so put that on
your calendar, too! Both girls will be performing with their parents,
so I'm sure that will be a treat.
Contact Jane Harlin or the church office for more information.

Introducing the RUMC Greenspot - Helping our Environment!
R.U.M.C. 's Awareness Program
on
Local, National and International Sustainable Environment Issues
This new focus club will be offering information and programs regarding local,
national and international efforts to develope and nurture sustainable
environmental programs to help increase awareness of this issue.
Whether we use the terms 'renewable', 'sustainable' or 'recoverable', we are
generally talking about the same concepts - those of using our God-given gift of
intelligent application of thought and action to prudently use and utilize the
natural resources of our planet.
Please contribute ideas, thought and time. Contact Paul Sharar to become informed and involved.
Whenever you see it, click the GreenSpot

Do We Make a Difference? You Bet We Do!
Sometimes, after spending so much of our personal time, effort and yes – money, we
wonder whether the work we have done has had any impact at all. Certainly, that is
one factor that causes each of us to hesitate when asked to contribute to church
activities and leadership. But if you think that way, that there is little return
for the effort, that no one really cares, then we challenge you to look at the faces
of our pre-school and Sunday school youngsters, to those of our older members when
we share education or luncheons, or those of the homeless when we share supper in
Hackensack or an evening with them in Ridgewood. Take some time to learn more
about the impact that RUMC has in the area and in our Missionary support! Yes,
we do make a difference. And the next time you are called on to help, think about
this and say "Yes”. Believe us, it is all worth it!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Do You Make a Difference? You Bet You Do!
Whatever your personal interests are, we have a home for you! Some of us are
cooks! Some of us enjoy knitting. Others enjoy a good book and friends with
which to discuss it. Can you lift 200 pounds? Well, maybe not by yourself, but
when joined by nine other people, each only has to lift 20 pounds and you can
do that!
Do you want to contribute energy to defeat human trafficking and slavery of
women and children around the world? If so, this is the place to be (click
here to read more and to download
a printable flyer!). Do you want to help build a house? We do that, too!
Some people think that choirs are only made up of trained singers, but
remember the Mormon Tabernacle Choir is made of no professional singers, only
120 people who enjoy bringing song to the world! Yes, you do make a
difference and we can help make your dreams come true! Come join us
for a week or two and enjoy our camaraderie!
